Outreach & Mission

St. Michael’s Church is deeply committed to the Christian call to love our neighbor as ourselves. We are involved in a wide variety of outreach and mission projects in our local community, the nation and the world.  We share of ourselves both in terms of financial contributions and our time and talents. Here are some of the many mission and outreach projects in which St. Michael’s participates.

 

 

 

  • Amicus/Young Life - a Christian foreign exchange student program.

  • Birthday Books for Children – children receive a book on their birthday while at the Red Cross Shelter, Life Support or TESSA.

  • Candles for the Homeless – candles and cans are provided to distribute to homeless persons in the community.

  • Care and Share Food Bank - provides food for 25,000 hungry people in Southern Colorado each week.

  • Ecumenical Social Ministries (ESM) – helps families with prescription medication, food, rent, clothing, job placement, training, etc. We also collect and donate eyeglasses for this program.

  • Episcopal Church Women - money earned by working at the Thrift House is distributed to numerous organizations outside the church.

  • Epiphany Ministry – provides a course on Christianity for incarcerated youth

  • Hat and Mitten Drive – provides warm clothing items for needy children in our community during Advent.

  • Interfaith Hospitality Network --help for homeless families by giving transitional shelter in places of worship throughout Colorado Springs

  • Kairos – a ministry of Christian retreats for incarcerated men and women.

  • The Lord’s Dinner – provides meals for the homeless and hungry, and distribution of nonperishable items.

  • Pine Ridge Indian Reservation – an ongoing mission relationship, including mission trips to repair churches, provide Bible school, and distribute items of need.

  • Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) – 50 moms and children meet twice monthly for support and education about mothering in a Christian home.

  • Northern Churches Care (NCC) – providing food, rental assistance and transportation to needy families.

  • Operation Christmas Child – donations of gifts for children around the world at Christmastime.

  • Red Cross After-school Snack Program – providing healthy snacks for children involved in these programs.

  • Shalom Center – providing spiritual counseling services for people affected by trauma.

  • Skills for Living (Kenya) – parishes in Kenya received money to support their ministers.

  • St. Clare’s Guild – provides knitted and crocheted creations: cushions for our own parish, hats and afghans for newborns at area hospitals and Pine Ridge reservation, and helmet liners for American troops deployed.

  • TESSA  (Trust, Education, Safety, Support, Action) – provides material help and safety for women and children in need.

  • Trinity Ranch – support of the regional Episcopal camp, which provides youth summer camps, retreats and conferences.

  • United Thank Offering – an international offering that provides over $3 million in grants for a variety of charity and mission work.
