Meet our Spiritual Directors
We invite you to learn more about our Spiritual Directors who are gifted leaders trained in various disciplines and practices. The term “Spiritual Direction” can be misleading because it is not really about being “directed.” Rather, it is very much about being transformed and guided to draw oneself closer to God. In various circles around the church you may also hear Spiritual Direction referred to as Soul Care, Spiritual Companioning, Walking With or Along Side someone.
Each director has her own spiritual direction agreement and fee.
MARGIE ARMS
Margie has been a spiritual director for 20 years. Currently, she provides individual spiritual direction working with women who are in transition in their faith process or who are wanting to deepen their connection with God. She also works with trauma survivors on spiritual issues relating to their trauma. She has led retreats and workshops and is a former member of the Spiritual Direction Colorado Committee. Margie has taught in the Benedictine Spiritual Formation Program at Benet Hill Monastery in Colorado Springs. Before becoming a spiritual director, Margie practiced psychotherapy as a licensed clinical social worker. She holds a joint PhD from the University of Denver and Iliff School of Theology in religious and theological studies.
Sue Cooper Caruthers
After decades of being a psychologist, Sue entered a spiritual direction training program 2015 and graduated in 2017 which transformed her faith journey and life. Since then, Sue has served as a spiritual director with both individuals and groups. The people she walks with are seeking a closer relationship with God, greater compassion, and additional awareness of who they truly are as beloved children of God. Sue believes spiritual direction can bring you peace, help you recognize and use your spiritual gifts, and help you notice God’s presence in your daily life, sometimes in quite surprising ways. Please feel free to contact Sue if you would like to talk further about spiritual direction.
Stacy Cowell
Stacy has walked alongside others in their faith journey as a fellow traveler and spiritual companion for the past 30 years through a variety of ministry roles and experiences. Her ecumenical background coupled, with living overseas, has enriched her life through the gifts and perspectives found in different traditions, practices and approaches. She believes Spiritual Direction is rooted in hope and allows us to create a holy space to listen and deepen our connection with God, ourselves, and each other. Stacy graduated from the Global Benedictine Spiritual Direction Program through Benet Hill Monastery in August of 2024, a two-year training and one-year supervision program. She also earned a Master’s Degree in the Art of Teaching from Colorado College.

dr. TODD SPENCER
We don't have to become other-worldly, pure, perfect, of highest-religiosity, to participate with God in the Great Good. My work as a spiritual director and leadership coach is with both practicing Christians and those beyond the edges of the faith tradition. Spiritual direction with me is about slowing down, breathing deeper and helping you to notice, hear and see the Presence of the Divine in the middle of your everyday life. That Presence is already there. And, as is the case for all persons, there are times when one experiences a dryness or absence of God. In those moments, I walk with my directee providing as much kindness, and compassion and patience as I can possibly offer.
